Mathieu Weemaels

I m a Belgian painter, born in 1967 in Brussels.
My work is figurative but I always start from abstract ideas and compositions. I don't try to represent things but feelings, emotions. In a way, I work on a painting until I understand why I painted it. This means that when I start a painting I don't really know where it's going to bring me and I discover it little by little as if I was not the painter. I ve been working with soft pastels for years, now I almost only paint with oil.
