Julia Gagliardi

The substance of my artwork is the rhythm of creating and inspiring; art is the chance to explore prior experiences and inspire new expression. I challenge the notion that creating art is solely knowledge and expression. Developing artwork exceeds just learning the subject matter of proportions and compositions; it is the artwork that is created with raw emotions, that comes alive and ultimately enables me to be recognized and accepted as one who is artistically motivated.
Having grown up with the challenge of being dyslexic, I felt a sense of struggle with some academics. I had difficulty with expressing myself through writing yet art was my way to achievement and recognition. I built on my successes in art and found it to be a far more satisfying approach to sharing my thoughts.
In order for my art to come alive my role as an artist is to convey emotions, whether positive or negative, through my rich use of color, broad-brush strokes and dimensional texture. Though I have a diversified style, I recently focused my work around portraits.
