Born in West Virginia. Ed began work as a darkroom tech at the age of 16 and photographed his first family portrait at the age of 17 working solo. At the age of 18, he was a public relations photographer for two different colleges, having his work published in the local newspapers and alumni journals. By the time he was 25, he owned his own photography studio photographing portraits, commercial images, and architecture.
Ed's earliest influences came when he was about 3 years old. Ed saw an episode of national geographic television about the "Cameramen who Dared" and knew he wanted to be a photographer. Over the years he fell in love with still photography and did apprenticeships with several local portrait photographers. Most of what he has learned though he gleaned from books and magazine articles about the masters such as Weston, Karsh, Newman, Adams, etc.
