Sade Kahra

Sade Kahra (1974) is a Finnish photo graphy artist who was born and
raised in Stockholm. Kahra graduated from University of Art and
Design in Helsinki in 2000. She lives and works in the village of
Fiskars in southwest of Finland.

Sade Kahra's photographs question the sur-reality of events and seek
to detect the physical and mental characteristics of the human being.
Of Finnish origin, the artist is enmeshed in her culture. Her work
allows the different behaviour of the Finnish people to appear and
especially evokes the animated nightlife, essential for holding back
the sensations of death, solitude and boredom experienced during
"kaamos", the darkest and coldest period of the year. Dreams, sleep,
instinct, sensuality and sexuality are the central themes of her
work. Photography, sensitive to light, allows her to experiment, to
paint and write with this material and from this, to make up for the
absence of light. In her photographs, Sade Kahra analyses the
consequences and aims to visualise the state of mind, influenced by
the space and the culture, of a well-defined territory.
