Larry Kanter

I am a full time artist living in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2008 I was diagnosed with head-neck cancer. After completing my treatment with cancer I realized that this life is so fleeting. Here today, gone tomorrow. That became very apparent to me and my life began to change.

Although I have been creating art for years, it was the cancer that propelled me into creating more and more pieces. Pieces that were of the highest quality. Having been at deaths door, I fully understand the frailties of this world and of my own existence.

So today, I set out to paint or sculpt or draw something that I may share with the world. For today may be the last day of my life, one never knows.

My education began with an aunt and uncle who had one of the largest private collection of art in the U.S. when I was six or seven. I tried to spend as much time as possible at their home just absorbing the essence of each piece. From the Picasso drawings to the ceramic pieces of his to the Miro, Klee and Kandinsky paintings that rented space on their walls.

My aunt was extremely knowledgeable in art and knew what made a piece great. She would talk about each piece in great detail giving me an education from an outstanding collector I could not get anywhere.

For the most part, I am a self-taught artist.
