Artist Bio – Tim McGuire

Tim McGuire is a multidisciplinary artist whose photographic practice is grounded in sustained observation of the natural world. His work explores structure, surface, and the transformations embedded in material—weathered wood, exposed strata, and the layered evidence of erosion. Through this attention, he reveals the quiet presence of time within changing environments.

Alongside his photography, McGuire’s painting practice extends these concerns into a more expressive register. While rooted in similar investigations of structure and pattern, his paintings introduce heightened color and emotional intensity, offering another dimension to his ongoing exploration of how natural systems continually reshape themselves.

Formal photographic training began in 1983 through traditional black-and-white film and darkroom processes.
Bachelor of Science, Northern Arizona University, with concentration in Graphic Arts and Photography.
After assisting more than 100 commercial and editorial photographers, McGuire worked in studio and on-location productions, maintained an independent commercial practice, and completed long-term contract assignments for major corporate clients, while continuing his fine art studies in painting. His film work has been selected for multiple international festivals, reflecting his continued exploration of cyclical change and natural systems through the moving image.
