Ard Huizinga is a designer from the Netherlands. Originating from Rotterdam, he moved to the northern Netherlands over 25 years ago. The peace, space, beautiful light, and extraordinary skies of the landscape have always captivated him, and they have come to play a key role in his artwork.
For many years, Ard worked as a self-taught designer, focusing on brand identities, print materials, illustrations, picture books, and various experimental projects. Design was always at the center, but in 2023, he decided to reinvent himself as a painter. He wanted to explore new ways to express his creativity. Through experimentation and taking classes with Antje Sonnenschein, he was able to find direction and start developing his own distinctive style.
In June 2024, Ard had the honor of having one of his paintings chosen to be displayed at the Groninger Museum, as part of an initiative by 3FM (Dutch national radio). After hundreds of submissions, his painting was selected by a jury, which included Andreas Blühm, the director of the Groninger Museum. The jury noted that his painting, featuring a willow tree in a vibrant landscape, could easily fit among the works of De Ploeg artists.
