Ajewole Adifagbola Oluwatoyin is a Nigerian hyperrealist and surrealist mixed media visual artist whose practice explores the emotional, spiritual, and psychological dimensions of the human experience. Born and raised in Ogun State, Nigeria, his journey into art began from a young age, nurtured by a deep sensitivity to his environment and an early passion for drawing and storytelling. Over the past eight years, Ajewole has refined his artistic voice through the disciplined mastery of charcoal, pastel, and mixed media techniques on paper. His works are marked by intricate detail, emotional intensity, and symbolic narratives that draw viewers into layered worlds of reflection, vulnerability, and spiritual awakening. He creates from his studio in Nigeria, where he immerses himself in both the chaos and calm of his surroundings to fuel his visual language. Ajewole’s most recent body of work “AJE WA FI ILE MI SE IBUGBE “ delves into African identity, wealth , collective memory, spiritual warfare, hope, and self-reclamation. His figures often appear in states of transformation or divine tension captured through tears, sweat, flames, halos, and light invoking a sacred realism grounded in both prophetic symbolism and personal testimony. His work is rooted in lived experience and social commentary but also transcends realism through a metaphysical lens. Drawing on spirituality, Yoruba symbolism, and contemporary African thought, Ajewole’s art becomes not only a visual encounter but a space of healing, confrontation, and revelation.
