Alina Shevchenko

Alina Shevchenko (b. 1988, Riga, Latvia)
Abstract artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I am interested in surfaces, colors, lines, shapes and textures. In my recent works I explore the relationship between different elements in a composition and how they complement each other. I work within the abstract field both on paper, canvas, cardboard and MDF boards.

My works vary from expressive mixed media collages till rhythmic drawings with free lines or organic line structures.

My collages consist of several layers. I produce my own visual material that I deconstruct into many fragments, which I then compose together again.

Through painting and drawing, I work very intensely with composition building using lines that I connect together into organic line constellations. I draw, paint and scratch the lines through a layer of paint to reveal what’s underneath.

My works are constructed both intuitively and controlled at the same time. I start by creating chaos in the composition, which I process and organize until I achieve desired balance between different elements in the composition.
