Inspired on the beaches of Portugal to use trash as a collage material, I am exploring the material properties and meaning of plastic waste. My interest lies in building layered surfaces activated with transparency, reflectivity, and fragmentation. My methods are drawn from my background in textiles, my love/hate relationship with painting, and my natural proclivity for collage.
Using symbolism, decoration and light, I mine the historic use of these visual languages in religion and spirituality. I am seeking a transformation and elevation of material to question notions of value in our consumerist culture.
