Shahana Afaq

Born on 20th Jan 1991, I am a Karachi-based multidisciplinary artist. I have received my BFA with Distinction from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi in 2015, majoring in Painting. Within my practice, my work is a manifestation of simple yet profound events that have taken place at Mehmood House, my ancestral residence in Amravati, India. The visual context of my work has emerged from sensory information that is a culmination of my subconscious and conscious observations. It is also a phantasmagoria of different moments featuring experiences that have been visually translated at various periods of time and place.

I have received my BFA (Bachelors in fine arts) with Distinction from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi, Pakistan in 2015, majoring in Painting.

I have showcased my work nationally and internationally. I took part in Box-Print International Portfolio Exchange Programme with COFA, Australia in 2014. I have been a part of the Imago Mundi Project –White Turban in collaboration with Luciano Benetton Foundation, Ambreen Karamat, and Amanullah Mojadidi: exhibited in Italy –Venice Biennale and Luciano Benetton ‘Imago Mundi’ collection. My work was also selected for Masters Screen & Stone at the Bankside Gallery, London in 2018, I also displayed my work for ‘Witness’ at Karachi Biennale in 2017. In 2020, my work was published by Markings in the book, ‘Our Markings 2020’-A Global Photographic Journey through COVID-19, a testimony to life during self and social isolation, and I am also featured & promoted in the Contemporary Art of Excellence Book | Volume IV | Investable Artists 2021 by GAA Publishing (Global Art Agency). I continue to practice my work with a wide range of mixed media.
