Yungah Hwang

Born and raised in Busan, South Korea, I immigrated to Sao Paulo Brazil in the late 1970s. In 2019, I decided to immigrate to the US to be closer to my youngest son. My art is heavily influenced by my experiences in all the countries I lived in.

I see the world as God's perfect creation. More importantly, I believe that humanity is the greatest of all creation. That is why my work focuses on depicting human behavior and human movement. Inspired by the nature around us, I illustrate humanity's everyday joy, sorrow, fellowship, loneliness, and beauty. I like use the colors black and white to highlight the different color tones and create wholistic images.

I also employ different canvas-texturing techniques to relay a sense of depth. My unique combination of color selection and canvas-texturization produces semi-abstract art works open to viewer interpretation. My goal is to create art works that touch each viewer in an ever-changing way.
