Ruzica Zajec grew up in Beli Manastir, Croatia, and later moved to Germany to study at the College of Visual Art in Hanover and is currently a freelance artist. In Ruzica Zajec’s work she surprises us with sensitively posed questions of perception. She works with diverse materials and constructs spaces with her objects, she attracts and astonishes us by the multitude of differences one perceptible entity can create in art work. She shows us the apparent ordinariness in a new way. Looking retrospectively at her work it becomes clear that her commitment to painting and drawing and the awareness of the human presence in space, as they are brought up in images and spatial objects, are inseparable.
The artist’s reflection upon the essence of our being, the actual and visible and our selfawareness in the world, lead to finely modulated exhibits. Her enthusiasm for transparency and multi-layers, as well as the play with the light and of light itself, reflects her sensitivity in which she tells of magic and mystery and how they are seemingly effortlessly formed in her art.
