June Sira

About the Artist

June Sira

Norway

June Sira‘s paintings are imbued with an ethereal and captivating stillness that captures an essential aspect of life. She skillfully portrays the often overlooked thoughtfulness and wisdom that young individuals possess as they navigate an ever-changing and challenging world. Her art transcends the superficial, delving deep into the complexities of human experience.

In Sira’s own words, her paintings introduce viewers to individuals of ambiguous age in a range of portraits and tableaus. These creations are fabulistic, symbolic, or fragments of a larger narrative, inviting observers to explore the depths of her subjects’ emotions and stories. Each painting becomes a doorway to a world of contemplation, emotion, and introspection.

Her artistic journey has been an exploration of life and everyday reflections, translating these experiences into paintings characterized by rich interior landscapes, compositional confidence, and a distinctive sense of stillness.
June Sira’s art is a profound and contemplative reflection of the human condition. It serves as a testament to her exceptional talent and her ability to capture the essence of youth’s intellectual depth and emotional complexity. Her paintings invite viewers to embark on a journey of self-discovery and contemplation, resonating with those who appreciate the profound beauty of the human spirit. Sira’s work transcends cultural boundaries, making her a respected and sought-after artist in the international art scene.
June Sira has received multiple prestigious awards, among them the Arches Prize, as well as the Art Club Prize at The National Annual Autumn Exhibition in Oslo, Norway in 1995. In 2000 she received the National UK Prize of the UBS Art Award, judged by the director of the Tate Modern, Sir Nicholas Serota. After the exhibition was held at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, it toured Europe throughout 2001.

June Sira has been purchased internationally by public and private collectors, amongst The Batra Family Collection, The National Gallery Norway and Arts Council Norway.
June Sira was educated at the Oslo National Academy Of The Art where she studied painting, printmaking and sculpture from 1985 to 1992. She has a Master of Fine Art in painting from Chelsea School Of Art in London in 2000. Her work has been purchased by museums and institutions and she exhibits regularly.
