Flow, 2024 Artwork

I am a Brooklyn-based, self-taught artist specializing in large-scale figurative textile work. My current series began after a transformative trip to Mexico in 2011, which ignited in me a deep desire to breathe new life into objects from bygone eras. By altering their scale and reinterpreting them in fabric and thread, I seek to create something both timeless and contemporary. Using carefully selected fabrics that I layer and arrange like paint on a canvas, I explore new dimensions of texture, color, and form. Originally from France, I developed an expertise in African arts while working alongside collectors in Paris and later in New York, where I have lived since 1998. For decades, I have admired and studied these objects, observing how artists, dealers, curators, and collectors have engaged with them since they were first "discovered" in the early 20th century.
