María Jim (Granada, Spain, 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Madrid whose practice emerges at the intersection of materials and meaning, unfolding through painting, installation, and sculpture. Her work investigates the social constructs that shape our experience of time—particularly those that equate value with productivity and speed. By challenging these paradigms, Jim reveals how they amplify the scarcity of time and the emotional pressures of contemporary life. In contrast, her practice creates spaces for stillness and introspection, where time stretches, softens, and becomes emotional and relative. 'Gardening' (as a painting) has become a conceptual and poetic core of her practice. To garden is to erase past, present, and future; it is to defy time. To cultivate in the present while envisioning a future that may never come. It is an act of care for something that may outlive us—a quiet defiance of time’s linearity. Her creations draw inspiration from the representation of natural elements that defy fragility through resilience as a means of enduring time. By questioning traditional notions of time, Jim invites viewers into moments of contemplation and stillness, encouraging reflection on its abstract and relative nature. Her work aims to create a space for introspection, redefining how we perceive and interact with time.
