Gary Matthews

I was born in Effingham, IL -1947 . I currently live in Glendale, Arizona. I do not create art in a linear fashion. I sometimes work on different styles at the same time. I like the play of light and shadows on places and things. Color and composition are my main focus. I have many hobbys. I collect comic books, vintage toys, animation art and I'm really into film both popular & independent.
Some of my art influences are Estes, Caravaggio, Bell, Magritte, Parrish, Stella and De Kooning. I was fortunate to be represented by Peter Drew Gallery on Worth Ave. in Palm Beach, FL. (1982-1990).
I moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1994. In 1995 I worked as graphic artist for 18 years . In 2017 I decided to start painting again. I have paintings in private collections from the west coast to the east coast, France, & Germany.
