Tamar Eytan - Sculptor 

I was born in Lodg, Poland on 5.3.1919. My family came to Israel (Palestine at that time) in 1924, when I was 5 years old. As a child I grew in Tel-Aviv. During the Second World War I served in the British army, on the A.T.S (1943-1946), and got married to Joe, who also served in the British army and was one of the first Israeli officers in the Jewish Brigade.
In 1959, we moved to Beer Sheba. I opened my own studio – making wood and stone sculptures, the latter mostly basalt, as well as ceramics sculptures. A few years later, I started teaching sculpture and ceramics at the Kay College, and continued doing so until 1993.

In 1971, back to Jerusalem, I focused on wood and stone sculpture. In periods of lull, I worked with a variety of materials: I made small wall-hangings, using the 'macrame' technique; cloth wall-pictures, and later, created small figures out of copper plates, hammering out and soldering. In all of these creations, I adhered to the three-dimensional principle. The cloth wall-pictures were displayed at the Israel Museum Youth Wing.
As time went on, I found myrself turning more and more to my first love – clay:
"Clay has magic; it is impossible to remain indifferent to it. ...
