Lwanga Emmanuel

“Born and raised in Mutundwe, a Kampala suburb, the third child of 10, my love for sculpting developed at an early age when I discovered that I could make figures out of the ant-hill soil in the home garden and that they would dry to a state of permanency when left out in the scalding sun. I did not follow this up for I loved drawing more and I used to fill up book after exercise book with drawings of the then popular film stars... The “ Rambos, Schwarzenegger, Jean claude - Van Damme, Bruce Lee” of that time. And because our education system does not emphasize sculpture in the early years of school, I was formally introduced to sculpture in 2003 after joining Michelangelo School of creative Arts for a diploma in art and design. It is there that I produced my first ever sculpture under the kind tutorship of Henry Mujuzi Kipemba. I graduated in June 2006 with a Kyambogo University Diploma but it was not until January 2009 that I applied for a three year Degree in Industrial and Fine arts at Makerere University, graduating on the 24th of January, 2013 with a First class honors degree .
Working with several sculptors has exposed me to various techniques and given me a chance to develop my skills.
