Maggy is often inspired by nature, its organic shapes, structures and patterns but also her personal observations of changes in time and places - from the smallest of corals to the wide expanses of African plains. By exploring composition, colour, form and feeling she creates a fascinating world.
Naturally the countries she visited and their vibrant cultures played an integral part in shaping her ideas for artworks- as do the countless sketches, notes and memories of these places. Often strongly recognizable in her work is the sense of ‘fernweh’ (the longing for places far away) and pleasurable solitude.
Since 2012 Maggy is living and working in the Netherlands.
She works in pastel, acrylic and oil. She also designs and executes quilts and objects of papier mache.
Maggy Kukler was born in the Netherlands. After obtaining a degree in Art and Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and gaining teaching experience she lived and worked in various African countries and the Caribbean.
Maggy Kukler has exhibited works in many exhibitions in various countries in Europe and Africa in one-woman shows as well as joint exhibitions with other artists.
