“My work reflects the power of color to produce an emotional response. I consider painting as a contemplative sensory experience, finding joy in pigments and witnessing their magic on canvas as they blend together. My current work is filled with dazzling hues and curvaceous forms, referring to an imaginary world that lives within me. Metallic layers and transparencies allow multiple combinations, from bold to lyrical. I find inspiration in nature and in the act of creation, surrendering to the mysterious and sublime. My philosophical goal as an artist is to produce works that nourish the soul.” – Nancy Kullgren

Nancy Kullgren was born in Akron, Ohio. She attended Stephens College with a focus on Liberal Arts. Feeling drawn to the mountains, she completed her studies at the University of Colorado with a BA in Sociology and Literature. She settled in Aspen in 1966.

She has been an artist-in-residence at The Red Brick center for the Arts since 2002, establishing strong ties with the local artist community. In 2009 she was selected to participate in Dean Sobel Juried Exhibition. Kullgren took part in numerous group and solo shows in venues like the Aspen Art Museum, Aspen Highlands Gallery, Gargoyle Gallery, Pitkin County Bank, Aspen Chapel Gallery, Community Banks of Colorado, Gorilla Gallery, and Suzanne Mears Gallery.
