Ruth Whiting

My work is driven by visual fascination and informed by technique. I dream of the next painting as I evolve my practice to facilitate my vision. Mythology and art history fascinate me.

For over a decade I have painted in series. Each group of works is like a conversation with slightly different points of view overlaying to create a picture that is larger than any one work can convey. One image leads to the next. The paintings feed each other. Like a favorite topic amongst a group of very close friends I find that a given series can span years. Painted objects are outside of time once created and I enjoy going back to old themes as if I just left them yesterday.

Process unites my painting practice which at first glance can seem rather varied. I have a strict any means necessary policy. Inspiration often comes as a glimmer of a vision that I then chase down and try to capture in paint. From tiny brushes to palette knives and outdoor paint flinging I use exactly what I must to best convey my vision.
