Claudia Viehl

My work mainly consists of painting landscapes in oil on canvas. A part of the picture (mostly the sky) is painted in strong colours with very high details, leaving the rest of the picture a rough sketch with oil pen on white primer. -/- I developed this special technique over the last few years. The opposition of colour and black-white and the difference in the used techniques produce a very strong contrast. For the viewer, both parts of the picture unite in a confusing way. -|- The viewer quickly begins to fill the white spaces with his or her own colours and the frail hints of landscapes are filled with his memories, transferring my painting into a very personal and intimate image.
