Mary Veale

I was born in rural Ireland and emigrated in the 70s to go to England to train as a midwife.I changed careers and went back to study in 1983 ,foundation exeter college of art ,BA DESIGN GLASS :CERAMICS SUNDERLAND NATIONAL CENTRE OF GLASS MASTERS IN FINE ARTS ,masters in fine art University of Northumberland .
My artistic training was in Britain and I moved again to France in 1996 where I have finally set down my roots with my three daughters and husband .Since moving from Ireland I have become another type of Irish person where my roots have become more universal and this idea of moving cultures and taking on a new culture and language has influenced my work and life in general .I have an ongoing project which is to do with crossing cultures/borders .My chosen material is often glass which gives so many depths and symbolic meanings to my ideas .My work is a continuous research into ideas relating to being simply human ,being a woman mother /artist. I have created pages of a glass book which symbolizes all the tragic states which wars brings about. As borders become more fluid and transparent people move migrate and disperse ,languages get mingled and accents becomes ones hallmark .The glass pages of my book are containers of fict...
