Zohar Cohen is a painter, MFA graduate from the University of Haifa, a graduate of the 'Kalisher' School of Art, and holds a B.Ed. in Education. He specializes in teaching gifted students and works as a teacher and curriculum developer within Israel’s Ministry of Education. Born in 1969, he lives and works in Israel, and is married with two children.
Artistic Style
Cohen creates large-scale, vibrant paintings built from dense, layered brushstrokes that evoke rhythm, light, and emotional atmosphere. His titles often hint at geographic or personal memories, yet the final image moves beyond the site—toward abstraction, multiplicity, and poetic resonance.
Creative Process
Each work begins with a place-based idea. Once in the studio, the painting detaches from its origin and is reshaped through cycles of layering, erasure, destruction, and renewal. The act of painting becomes a process of investigation—not to represent a place, but to generate a space of presence, memory, and transformation.
