Ijeoma Ogwuegbu

I'm a writer and artist living in Lagos, Nigeria. I paint to fill the spaces between what we know and what we can only imagine. As a person living with a chronic condition (Fibromyalgia), painting is a release and a necessity, at the same time an obstacle to navigate in the spaces my body becomes present in. I'm fascinated by patterns and the way they fit into our everyday lives and the essence they imbue into life. I love the energies that colours and paint carry, and how our bodies receive and internalize such, both good and bad. To speak to the things my body can do, and expand what it can't. As a woman and a feminist, I love to explore how everything around us have been used as a cloak, in wrapping women in processes that are harmful to us, just to prop up a system built to subdue and destroy us.
I want to keep pushing those spaces and their effects on us and everything around us.
