Kristie Murphy

My love of art began during college while studying interior design. I took several art classes but
never delved into art until I began repurposing furniture. I would be considered a self-taught
abstract or intuitive artist. I work mainly with acrylic and enamels on canvas or board and tend
to include bold colors, texture, metal leaf and epoxy resin in most of my work. I am a hoarder
by nature. Since I do not throw away anything, I always find ways to incorporate the recycled
elements in my art. I allow the materials and elements that I use to lead me in. This gives me
the opportunity to explore different directions the composition can flow.
There are many factors that could be reflected in my art. It could be the bright, bold colors used
with the recycled materials. It could be the weather or the passing emotions of the day. It could
be the texture or the eye-catching layers that draw you in. I aim to create art that exhibits
beauty and passion and will evoke candid emotions.
