German-born, Dutch artist, architect, and musician Mats de Boer works between Mallorca and Madrid. Classically trained on the cello and several instruments, his sensitivity toward composition and rhythm later translated into a visual practice rooted in materiality and reductionism.
Encouraged early by an art teacher at age eleven, Mats began painting on large canvases and later apprenticed under a Mallorcan artist during the COVID period. Parallel to his creative development, he signed his first record deal as a teenager and later pursued architecture in Madrid and Segovia, where he became President of the University Arts Club and curated his first exhibition at Casa de la Moneda.
His practice matured through experiences in Argentina, and beyond, eventually leading him back to Mallorca, where he now works exclusively outdoors from his family finca in Colònia de Sant Pere. There, he creates large-scale works using natural pigments extracted from the island’s soil, embedding each piece with the Mediterranean’s imprint. His process merges architecture’s structural precision with painting’s organic spontaneity.
