I am Thilini de Simon, an Artist based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. What I am trying to do with my art is to share the beauty and the shared human experience (joy, sorrow, shock, wonder etc) through my creative process. I am fascinated by Nature and the our relationship to it as humans, the way we are part of it, how nature makes us whole, how hurting the ecosystem ends up hurting us, how a simple bird song could lift our spirits up, how we can live a sustainable life with nature and feel fulfilled and happy through it, I feel that the happiness that humans are searching for striving for is found in nature, by living with nature by learning from nature, the more we get close to nature the more we feel as if we are finally going home. To create something and to share it with others is an intimate thing. Through my work I want to show what stirs me and if it stirs you, then I have created something worthwhile. While I paint mainly with oil paints on canvas I also like to play around with mixed media specially collage, acrylic and water colour. To me learning is a lifelong process, art has always been the place I go to find my soul. Genesis Group Exhibition My objective through this series is to share the beauty of human experiences. the theme ‘invisible justice’ which portray my thoughts, emotions and feelings about the Easter day 2019, which saw a series of bombs exploding in churches around Sri Lanka as devotees worshipped on Easter Sunday. I have used the backpack as an object to portray that day in history and the injustice caused and the invisible justice that is met.
