Serdar Akdeniz

Serdar Akdeniz is a contemporary visual artist working through surface, time, material processes, and transformation. His works begin not with predetermined images, but with material conditions through which images can emerge. The artist's role is to establish these conditions rather than to prescribe their outcome. Drawing does not illustrate the effects of time; it enters into processes already unfolding through the behavior of surfaces, materials, and chance. These formations may continue through layered physical and digital processes, extending the work into another material language rather than reproducing its initial appearance.

Time, in these works, is not linear but accumulative. It does not pass; it acts. Surface becomes the place where this action is made visible. What appears as erosion or decay is approached not as loss, but as a form of maturation — a slow emergence of complexity and depth.

Rather than depicting subjects, the works evolve through the interaction of time, material behavior, and accumulated traces. Materials are treated not as passive media but as active participants whose behavior contributes to the formation of each work.
