Simon Temple is a mixed media, visual artist living in Meanjin, Brisbane whose
work wrestles with themes around dislocation and belonging. Simon works
predominantly in large format canvases expressing strong, spontaneous
gestures. His work is multilayered; heavy with texture and deep, black
etching overlaying bold, vibrant colours.
His work explores the interplay between paint mediums, seeking to elevate the tone
of each work by creating a visceral engagement with the viewer; almost inviting them
to touch the textures. Marks are more than just strokes on canvas, they lift from the canvas using moulding pastes, sand, ground charcoal and impasto paste.
