Aloaye Norris Adoro

My art is an ongoing commentary on social issues that arise from everyday activities and events. I refer to my creative process as making statements or interpretations about personal experiences, relationships with other people, and happenings in the world around me from, in particular relating to my feelings and responses to various events. In addition to my contemporary perspective, childhood experiences and how they influenced me are also important aspects of my work, as well as traditional folklore and stories handed down from generation to generation.

People are so mobile today, constantly moving and relocating from one place to another, that our pasts have a tendency to be lost. So at the same time that I explore and comment on current events and issues in my work, I also feel that preserving our histories and the wisdom of those who came before us is essential to understanding what happens in our lives today. By revealing my perspectives and opinions on matters, taking into consideration both the past and the present, I invite viewers to reflect on these issues and also to encourage discourse.
