Gastone Cecconello (Italy, 1942) is a prominent visual artist whose career spans more than six decades of continuous experimentation and a unique expressive language. Born into a humble family in Piedmont, he overcame personal and physical challenges to affirm himself as one of the most original figures of Italian contemporary art. From the late 1960s onward, Cecconello developed a coherent and recognizable poetics in which geometry, texture, and color are in constant dialogue with memory and matter. His works often employ reclaimed and polymaterial media—iron, wood, stone, plaster, printed paper, sand, and pigments—transformed into rigorous sculptural and pictorial compositions. Central to his research are the “ominidi”, stylized faceless beings enclosed in boxes or serially repeated: a radical reflection on identity and the alienation of contemporary man, metaphors of a society that reduces and flattens individuality. Throughout his long career, Cecconello has built relationships with fellow artists such as Romano Conversano and Guido Mosca, and has received prestigious awards including the Renzo Roncarlo Memorial Prize and the Giangiacomo Spadari National Prize, the latter awarded for a work on the theme “Theater – cinema… seductive muses for painting, sister art.” His works have been exhibited internationally, from Paris to the French Riviera, as well as in numerous solo shows curated by critics including Angelo Gilardino, who emphasized his ability to elevate even the most ordinary materials into powerful symbols rich with meaning. In recent years, Cecconello has focused on enclosing real objects within boxes, creating metaphysical assemblages, while continuing his pictorial practice with large luminous fields of color animated by his distinctive stylized figures. His pittosculture and sculptures oscillate between denunciation and poetry, investigating the condition of living within social systems. Today, his works are held in both public and private collections, and he is represented by independent galleries and international platforms. Collecting a piece by Gastone Cecconello means acquiring not just a work of art, but a testimony of recognized cultural value: material, form, and concept woven into a profound dialogue with the viewer. Each piece stands as both an artistic and economic investment, firmly rooted in the history of Italian contemporary art.
