About Fanny Brodar

When the pandemic first happened, my art became an important creative outlet. The first piece that I created, ‘COVID’, shows a range of emotions, almost childlike, influenced by words heard in the news at the start of the pandemic. Over time, my pieces became brighter and more optimistic, as I focused on the future — little things like planting a garden to support all the creatures so I would have a sanctuary right in my backyard come Spring. So these works that I did during the pandemic are very personal. They range from the feeling that as a human, I have a responsibility to care for the earth, to works that are more self reflective or challenging internally on a psychic level, like ‘Many Monsters’. The monsters come back in many forms and with many emotions similar to the many emotions that I was feeling: happy, sad, angry, contemplative, accepting, and resilient. Much of my work has a childlike or unfinished quality to it, for example pencil marks, paint drips, or areas left unpainted — I feel this allows the viewer to see hints of my process.
