"Everybody needs beauty..... Places to play in where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike."- John Muir.
I'm Gene Allen an artist and painter from the northwest Lehigh/Albany Township area in Pennsylvania, and
Dutchess County, New York. The disappearing farm and wooded landscape is my primary focus, as well as the old buildings on this land. Occasionally, I show how developments, malls, and industrial parks are taking away more and more of our valuable farm land thus reducing the agricultural production of food. My paintings are a reminder of how our landscape appeared in earlier times and more importantly a statement of what we are rapidly losing. In my paintings, I try to catch and save the "good old times" of old Dutch Pennsylvania and New York. I would like my paintings to take you back to your childhood - to your Gramps on the farm, fresh blueberry pies made by your Nana, and to the times of pure happiness and serenity.
I taught art to kindergarten through ninth grade in the East Penn School District for thirty-two years and then became a professor at Kutztown University for additional eight years.
As a painter, I have had nine one man shows at Governor Wolf Historical Society. Further, I have shown at Macungie Park, Flatworks in Kutztown, Friends Art Alliance in Birdsboro, Swain School in Allentown, Eagles Nest Gallery in Nazareth, Grandview Gallery in West Lawn, and have been accepted into three juried Berkshire Art Alliance shows, the last at the Reading Art Museum.
