ABOUT
EDUCATION

1979 Born in Seoul, Korea
With a nuanced and subtle color palette, Gowoon Lee transforms an image of a cloud into a world with limitless possibilities. The curves are soft and sensuous, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in it and maybe even poke their head through the surface. What you imagine to be in those clouds is up to you, as the figures in the artworks do not ever reveal their face. Sometimes only certain limbs are visible and at other times a couple stands intimately close in a half embrace. The bodies, while sometimes frantically protruding from these forms, always are in a position of repose, content and relaxed with their position. For each viewer, whatever is in those clouds will always elicit a sense of curiosity and innocence; to be absorbed in a world where daily routine and responsibility are lost in the shroud.
