Jessica Curry

Jessica is a composer, sound and installation artist. She was born in Liverpool in 1973.

As a classically trained composer my work fuses traditional instruments and orchestration with applications of digital technology. My work is an ongoing exploration of human identity, particularly our hidden lives and emotional landscapes and is often melancholic and epic in scale. Voice and words assume a hugely important role in the work: whispers, sighs, conversations, song and breath merge with instrumentation to form abstract documentaries of peoples experiences and stories. I am interested in unearthing and exposing history by recording personal, often unheard narratives.

I am also interested in taking sound and music out of the concert and gallery space and into unexpected locations. All of my work focuses on how sound and music can bring a new level of experience to an environment by complimenting and enhancing its features and idiosyncrasies. I am a passionate advocate of the use of sound in public art and am interested in how sound can be beautiful, organic and work with the site within which its placed.
