My artistic practice unequivocally examines the postcolonial legacies of the Empire on the African continent. Drawing on contemporary and historical sources, he tackles significant themes such as national identity, human rights, cultural fusion, socio-economic destabilisation, and anti-Blackness. I focus on the materiality of objects and their relationships to painting, space, and place, which enables him to analyse the essence of things and reconstruct their definitions through bold aesthetic juxtaposition. He critically engages with how the intrinsic qualities of materials shape his emotional responses.
I also powerfully explore the intricate connections between nature and human emotion, capturing the delicate moments of balance and tension within both realms. Through layered textures, organic forms, and a colour palette drawn from the natural world, I evoke a compelling sense of presence in the viewer, offering grounding amidst the chaos of life.
I find inspiration in the subtle intricacies of the natural environment—from the way light filters through leaves to the texture of aged stone and the patterns of a bird's feather. These elements underscore our deep connection with nature, a comforting and humbling relationship. Using...
Dr Ade Ogundimu possesses a Professional Doctorate in Fine Art, a BA (Hons), and an MA from the University of East London. He advanced his studies in Design and Print at the University of the Arts London, Pop Art at the University of Oxford, and A Higher National Diploma in Painting from the School of Art at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, Nigeria.
