Hannah Bailey was born in Houston, Texas in 1991. Growing up in the city, she was greatly influenced by the art world but equally as influenced by the romance of the Texas tall tale. She is a mixed media artist who works with found and reclaimed material. Currently she is working on a series of sculptures as she finishes her last year at Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Painting. Her future plans are to move to West Texas, to continue working in her studio.
Through my objects, settings, and sculptures, I am exploring the idea of preserving time. I am creating these objects as artifacts. I am directly influenced by elements of folk tales, stories, and most importantly, the storyteller. I create an intimate setting of a memory with my objects. I am influenced by the temporal American landscape, and a haunting perseverance I see instilled in our culture. I am exploring the ideas of self-sufficiency and self-preservation through my works using reclaimed and found items. I like to think I am making my own family heirlooms of my American history.
