Ioana Popescu is a budding artist, born in Pitesti, Arges County, Romania. At the moment she lives in Bucharest, where she is studying at the National University of Arts.
Her works are part of the Impressionist movement and are based on works by French painters such as Monet and Bonnard. Ioana's early paintings depict both portraits and still lives, which aim to convey a particular atmosphere. In these works, we can see the alternation between sober monochromes and strong, vibrant color combinations that create a lively, clear and bright atmosphere. The artist is currently working on a series of works entitled "The Self", whose main theme is the exploration and contemplation of the female nude. Ioana draws inspiration for these works from her own experiences as a young woman.
Ioana uses oil on canvas, recycled cardboard, paper and plexiglass. The reason she often opts for perishable materials is to emphasize the perpetual changes that both the works and the artist undergo with the irreversible passage of time. The beauty of the paintings therefore becomes as fragile and fleeting as human life, and must be admired and cherished in time.
