Irma Calabrese is a Lithuanian-born, Sydney-based set / production designer, artist and illustrator. Her artworks are intricate, intriguing, minimalistic or highly detailed.
She studied many forms of art making through tertiary studies in Set Design, Jewellery and Interior Design and became most drawn to ink as the main medium for her work still whilst studying at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts in Lithuania. She also developed a strong interest in photography once moved to Australia more than 15 years ago. Inspired by travel, nature, primitive cultures, symbols, shadow puppetry, geometric and organic shapes, human psychology and interaction, her latest work is monochromatic pen / ink drawings. The themes of displacement, isolation, attachment, intimacy and afterlife are often present. Her work is held in private collections in Australia, Europe and the United States.
