Since I was a little I loved nature . Before I wanted to be an artist I wanted to be a biologist, I wanted to work with animals study them in their natural habitat. A year before I left Cuba when I was 14 my mother enrolled me in an art school and from that moment on the magic of being able to create changed my life forever.
Nature has been my source of inspiration from the beginning, it has a primordial grip of my soul. Although my exposure to it has been limited since my entire life I have lived in cities where nature is manicured and planed. This limited experience with nature and what I have learned beyond the cities which has been in a synthetic way, consuming it through books, television, the internet. I have fallen in love with it and when I venture out I am a tourist in it , a tourist in nature.
When I want to be in contact with nature society gives me the options of natural history museum, a botanical gardens a walk in the park a zoo and aquarium. I am a human from the Anthropocene.
Like fire, water, and wind, we humans are a force that shapes the earth. My work is about nature after humans; nature after our deliberate attempts to shape it; nature as utopian fantasy or at the brink of apocalypse. But my work ...
