About Janice Colbert

Janice Colbert is a professional Canadian artist and writer. She holds an MFA from The University of British Columbia and a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University.

Prior to that she worked for many years as a fashion designer and her painting continues to reflect her interest in textiles. Her art contains elements abstracted from antique quilts, the reconciliation/ juxtaposition of "traditional" and "modern" and the interface of what the eye sees and the mind interprets.


In her current work Janice is painting on heritage wood ironing boards from the 1920's.


Awards include being short-listed for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2012 in London, England and the RBC Canadian Painting Competition 2009.

Poetry Awards include the Banff Centre Bliss Carman Poetry Award (second place) and the Marina Nemat Award from the University of Toronto.


Her work has been exhibited at Nuit Blanche, Toronto International Art Fair, Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, OCADU, The Artist Project Toronto and commercial galleries in the Distillery District, Queen Street West, Victoria BC and Aqua 12 Contemporary Art Fair during Art Basel in Miami.


Her work is held in private collections in Canada, the United States and England. Exhibitions for 2013 include New York City, Miami, Victoria BC and Toronto.
