Jenny Shin

“I love to express my feelings through color,” says Jenyshin, speaking about her work. The colors in her paintings range from subtle blacks and grays to intense reds and yellows. Her subject material covers an equally broad territory, moving from contemplative portraits to exuberant abstractions. Working in oils, acrylics, pastels and crayon, Jenyshin creates paintings that skillfully combine many layers and types of texture. The artist’s sharp eye for both contrast and balance allows her to employ her colors in ways that give the compositions a strong dramatic punch, making a forceful play for the viewer’s attention. “When I see people feeling something when they see my paintings, this excites me,” she admits, engagingly. But that intensity and the strong emotional quality exist hand in hand with a clean, sure sense of line and a solid feel for composition. For all their dynamism, these paintings have a well-defined center, a sort of inner peace that coexists with their energy.
