Jin Lim

My paintings are the outcome of a series of the subconscious and intuitive gestures, creating chaos and harmony on the canvas. I apply many layers of thick paint with different strokes. Sometimes I apply other materials such as plaster to create textures, repeating the process until I see a picture that resonates with my intuition. I don’t have any plan or subject in mind when painting, I remove myself and any logical thoughts and let my subconscious take charge; choice of colors, amount of paint to apply, where to paint, a direction of a stroke, nothing is planned nor logical. I repeat the process until I am satisfied with its aesthetics.

Finding surprises in the painting is one of my biggest joys of working. It is similar to facing spectacular scenery created by natural forces like sunsets or wind and rain. My painting process is similar to how natural wonders are created
