Joana Sá Cabanelas

I like to escape reality through my painting. Yet that same reality haunts me. And I paint it as I see it. Not black, or white but something in between: light and shadow, tender and aggressive, ethereal yet concrete.

I have a degree in Product Design from Escola Superior de Artes e Design (ESAD). During a year, I studied at the Politecnico di Milano, in Italy. I finished my degree in 2009. In the same year I attended the first year of the degree in Plastic Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Oporto for six months. In 2011, I started my Master’s degree in Art and Design for the Public Space at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Oporto.

In December 2011, I presented my first individual exhibition called “Unrevealed Experiences” at the Palácio das Artes, in Oporto, that emerged as a need to express my layout through painting.
