About Karl Singporewala

Karl is an architect working internationally on buildings and sculpture from London, UK. His personal maquettes / models are a representation of architectural follies created during his daily commute to and from the capital. During this time of day in the purgatory between family and work life, he works on these pieces in what he describes as his ‘zen’ time.

He has often been found cutting and folding various pieces of work in train carriages surrounded by silent commuters eager to ask what is being constructed, but afraid to break the no talking rule! His sculptures are usually influenced by his work in professional practice along with its everyday liaisons.

Inspired by his commuting restraints, his model components are usually constructed without glue. “Simple folds and slots are more than enough to hold my constructions together; this is where my architectural training comes into its own.”
