Peter Kiesners

I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. But since that time I have moved around Canada, lived in New York, Eastern Europe and now reside in East Grinstead not far from London.

I have been most inspired by artists throughout the last 500 years from Frans Hals to Sargent to NC Wyeth. I find that competence in the figure has no end and there are many artists today which I adore as well.

My main focus in painting is people. I love to study people of all ages, they simply intrigue me and I never tire of noticing new things about them. So while i have done numerous portraits (and still take commissions) i also like to paint passing moments in life.

My education as far as art is concerned revolved around the figure. While I was able to study under David Leffel and Frank Mason at the Art Students League of New York I also studied the technique of John Sanden and even Norman Rockwell since they have both extensively published their working methods. In essence, I am self taught.

I have chosen and stayed with oils. The possibilities with this medium seem to overshadow anything else.
