Karen Scally

As a photographer I seek to create images with strong, ethereal qualities as well as present them on multiple and rare types of mounts.
In one dimension of my work I photograph the obvious, the natural, and the beautiful – land and sea as one takes in from the eye. Within that dimension I love to create fine art pieces that surprise you or enhance the images in one or more ways.
I enjoy focusing on specific details of the image and hone in on particular elements I can elevate. On the other side of that approach, I also enjoy toying with the surreal that I can derive from those natural landscapes to create a somewhat whimsical image. This also allows me to play with the idea of the ironic; adding oceanic themes to a mid-western landscape, forming dream-like thoughts and feelings. Between these angles I create a multi-level experience of viewing every natural region I photograph.
