Klaus Frahm

Born 1953 on a small farm at the outskirts of Hamburg, I became fascinated about photography at the age of nine.
From then on photography became a passion. Being self-taught in all steps of the photographic process, I started my own business in 1980. The main topics of my works is architecture, now and then with political-ethical or social subtexts.

Studied Journalism and Social Anthropology.

Being self-taught as a young photographer, my sources for inspiration were magazines and books. The way of learning by doing fitted very well for me. If you try copy someone's style, you soon recognize, that this is impossible, but you learn about the problems, which is inherent in all art. And finally you learn, that your approach is different and also unique. But we all stand on each others shoulders.
If I had to mention major influences it would not be only photographers. The main source is a fluid medium: music.
It is the "soundtrack" which accompanies me everywhere.
In painting it were atists like Edward Munch, Caspar David Friedrich, Monet, Czesanne, Marc Rothko, Franz Kline, Andy Warhol and...
Coming to photographers it began with Renger-Patzsch and Edward Weston, continued with Walker Evans, Lee Friedlander, Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind, and...
Over the years I became a book-collector, collecting books
of all kinds of genres to widen my perception and appreciate the works of others.
